Hello, I'm Dr. Vaughn.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Tennessee, and I've been a practicing therapist since 2001.
I've offered clinical supervision to junior therapists since 2005, and for the last ten years, that's been in the context of private practice in the Nashville area.
Read more about my role at The Wren Within and my professional background below. I am not taking new clients at The Wren, but I'd be happy to select one of our other therapists specifically for your needs.
About Me
One of my greatest joys is supervising clinical counseling interns as they learn to apply the skills they picked up in their classrooms. I offer encouragement so they build confidence, support for the hard stories they hold and the emotions they feel, tips for times they they feel stuck, and a different perspective when I think they might be missing or misunderstanding something. Because I carefully vet and select the students who apply to intern at The Wren Within, supervision proves to be an enjoyable and fulfilling process of watching great therapists become excellent therapists. Clients tend to feel the benefit of having more than one set of eyes on their situation, too. It feels great to know that I enjoy what I do, student counselors learn and build confidence, while meeting the requirements of their training program, and clients benefit from increased access to good therapy, supervised by seasoned practitioners, at a fee they can afford.
In 1999, I earned my Bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where I majored in clinical psychology and was awarded the honor of "Most Outstanding Senior in Psychology," selected from a class of hundreds of senior psychology students. There I minored in sociology and art, fueling my ongoing passions for understanding and helping people, relationships, groups, and systems, as well as creative expression, design, and innovation. After a one year break, during which I got married and managed a tuxedo store, my husband and I moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where I attended Nova Southeastern University and earned both a Master's and a Doctorate in clinical psychology. From there, I participated in a one-year internship at a state psychiatric hospital in North Carolina and a one-year post-doctoral residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Nashville, where my roots had been planted for many generations before me, became my home again in 2005, and this is where I've chosen to raise my children and grow my practice, after several twists and turns through a variety of settings in my career.
Since becoming fully licensed in 2006, I have pursued specialized training in the following areas:
Clinical Supervision for therapists
SomEx Certified (somatic and experiential therapy) (also certified as a SomEx supervisor)
Clinical Hypnotherapy for Trauma Resolution - Certified
Forensic Psychology (certification expired)
